Restoring our covenant relationship with God

By Elisabet Cox

My friend had a vision from God
Of how to bring His presence back to us here in this land
The way God showed her may to the world seem a bit odd
That His people in worship and repentance would stand

David experienced the presence of God as he prayed
So he worshiped every three steps of the way
He danced because his joy could no longer be contained
For the presence of God returned to Israel that day

In much the same way we gather to worship and pray
With songs of worship to God on His throne
More songs were raised about how great our God is
Still others needed to repent of the idols at home

We were led by some pastors and leaders in prayer
That the gates of heaven may be opened on earth
That the gates of hades may be slammed shut
That we would keep praising our Lord when times get tough[1]

We thanked God for ancient seeds sowed by godly pilgrims
And asked Him to breathe on dry bones as He did in Ezekiel’s day[2]
We cast down our idols and washed our hands of sin
And pleaded with the Lord to once more have His way

We broke bread together as a symbol of our unity
And dipped it in the wine of His purity
At the end of the evening two hours had passed
And God’s presence was with us once more at last

Now we are cautious not to pick up our idols again
But to turn to God for wisdom during daily joy—and pain
For He rewards and blesses us when we obey;
Great is His faithfulness, His mercies new every day
